2008–2010 | REDD+ readiness & forest carbon monitoring pilot | Cameroon
Implemented under the German Development Bank (KfW) and German International Cooperation (GIZ)

The REDD Cameroon Pilot Project supported Cameroon’s early preparation for REDD+ by establishing the technical and institutional foundations for forest monitoring and carbon accounting. As one of the country’s first structured REDD initiatives, the project focused on generating reliable baseline data on forest cover and carbon stocks while strengthening national capacity for Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV).
The initiative assessed the impacts of different forest management systems, developed methodologies for carbon stock estimation, and strengthened coordination between government institutions, local stakeholders, and international partners. It contributed directly to Cameroon’s REDD readiness strategy and laid the groundwork for subsequent national REDD+ and forest monitoring programs.
