As part of this support, a total of 60 fruit tree seedlings — including avocado, orange, and lemon trees — were distributed to community members

March 2026, SINREX provided technical support to members of the Buzito community, near Lugogo 1, as part of a community reforestation activity carried out in an area located 44 km from Kalemie, in Tanganyika Province, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. This initiative was implemented in a challenging environmental context, as Tanganyika continues to face an estimated annual deforestation rate of 2,500 hectares.
As part of this support, a total of 60 fruit tree seedlings — including avocado, orange, and lemon trees — were distributed to community members. In addition to the distribution, beneficiaries received hands-on guidance on tree planting techniques, serving as a practical training opportunity to strengthen local knowledge and capacity in reforestation practices, tree establishment, and long-term maintenance.
Beyond its immediate contribution to increasing vegetation cover, this initiative reflects an integrated approach that links environmental restoration, food security, and local economic development. In the long term, these fruit trees are expected not only to contribute to the expansion of vegetation cover in Tanganyika Province in particular and the DRC in general, but also to provide fruits that can help address food insecurity while creating future income opportunities through the sale of surplus production.
Through this action, SINREX demonstrates the value of community-based technical support in promoting practical and sustainable solutions that combine forest restoration, livelihood improvement, and resilience to environmental challenges.
