Developed through participatory processes with national institutions and supported by SINREX, Wilpa Capacity Development and other development partners, the assessments go beyond identifying strengths and gaps. They examine progress against the 86 REDDCompass recommended actions across four key areas: Institutional Arrangements, Technical Design Decisions, Measurement and Estimation, and Reporting and Verification. For each action, the assessment documents its status, supporting evidence and justification, and the priority steps still required.
The result is a practical, country-driven roadmap for strengthening MRV, improving the long-term sustainability of national forest monitoring, and helping governments and partners better target capacity development, technical assistance and future investment—including support for results-based climate finance.
The Republic of the Congo assessment also incorporates a Participatory Institutional Capacity Assessment and Learning (PICAL) assessment of CNIAF, linking technical NFMS performance with the institutional capacity needed to sustain the system over time.
