SINREX Technical Support to SCOOPS Makala Muzuri to Promote Green Entrepreneurship in Kalemie

In Kalemie, Tanganyika Province, in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the annual deforestation rate is estimated at 2,500 hectares, the development of sustainable alternatives to traditional charcoal has become a major priority for forest conservation. It is within this context that SINREX provided technical support to SCOOPS Makala Muzuri as part of broader efforts to assist communities in developing local entrepreneurial initiatives.

This support helped strengthen the cooperative’s technical capacity to produce eco-charcoal briquettes, an innovative and sustainable solution that can reduce pressure on natural forests. Through this assistance, approximately 100 kilograms of eco-charcoal briquettes were produced, demonstrating the practical potential of this initiative to meet local energy needs while promoting environmentally responsible alternatives.

Beyond production itself, the initiative highlights how community-based entrepreneurship can serve as a strategic pathway for combining economic opportunity, local innovation, and forest conservation. By supporting the development of alternative energy solutions in Kalemie, SINREX and SCOOPS Makala Muzuri are contributing not only to efforts to curb deforestation in Tanganyika, but also to the broader conservation of forests across the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
